Headed by Partner Philip Sharpe, our farming department has extensive experience in all aspects of accounting and tax planning for farms and rural businesses. Our current client base covers the full range of activities from small-scale organic vegetable growers to large family run estates. Our strong background in this area allows us to offer invaluable advice and insight, whether we are preparing your annual accounts, considering a specific transaction or reviewing your future plans.
Often rural businesses are a family enterprise, offering unique opportunities and issues when it comes to making plans going forward. We work closely with our clients to build a full understanding of their circumstances and their aspirations so that we can help them to make informed decisions about the future of their business.
We undertake detailed tax planning to ensure that the farm and/or business can be passed to the next generation in the most tax efficient manner. Farms may benefit from some very particular reliefs, but if there are any changes in the structure or composition of the business care has to be taken to ensure that they are not lost. Where possible we seek to assist you in taking full advantage of Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief, and advise on the best way to avoid triggering an unwanted Capital Gains Tax charge in the process.
