Last October, we announced that Sheen Stickland were to sponsor a fantastic project initiated by the Chichester Festival Theatre. The Playtime Project supported 32 pupils from Singleton and West Dean Primary Schools in Years 4-6 in developing their reading and writing skills to develop a short play. The resulting work was performed by members of the Chichester Festival Youth Theatre from Years 12-13 earlier this year on 28th February.
It was our privilege to attend both an educational Shakepeare theatre day in October and the Playtime sharing session in February. At both events, we saw for ourselves just how much benefit the children and young people were receiving from the project. There is no doubt that the project achieved what it set out to do in developing creative skills, but it was also great to see how all the children gained confidence from the experience.
As well as the unforgettable experience of seeing their words brought to life at the event on 28th February, each child received a Discover Arts Award certificate as a record of their achievement. The Playtime Project is due to be incorporated into a larger learning programme led by the Chichester Festival Theatre’s Learning and Education Department and we’re sure it will continue to be a worthwhile project.
We are committed to supporting the local area and ensuring that we thrive as a community, which is why we are so proud of our association with the Playtime Project.
